Measuring Visual Acuity
Measuring Visual Acuity
Dear Dad, Mom or Guardian,
Some children still do not verbalize or are shy to participate in the consultation.
Training at home, at least a week before the consultation, can help us a lot when measuring visual acuity ('amount of vision', 'ability to discriminate small shapes at a certain distance').
In this file, we have the drawing optotypes and the 'tumbling E'.
I will be very grateful to you, Dad and Mom, if you teach your child the name of each drawing or which way the 'little legs' of the letter E point.
This recommendation applies to children from 2 and a half to 3 years old.

SOCIAL HISTORY
FOR CHILDREN ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM
Dear Dad, Mom or Guardian,
Our children with ASD need a safe environment throughout their eye appointment. In order for them to feel that way, it is very important that you verbalize to your children, in advance, a few days before, the entire context and stages of the exam.
In this link, we have a simple and objective map of Boston Medical Center (in Portuguese).
Soon, we will publish here a script better adapted to our reality.
Big hug! See you soon...

Amblyopia treatment
Dad, Mom or guardian,
it's super important that we treat the use of occluder in childhood in a light, natural and as relaxed way as possible.
We need to demystify its use, emotionally strengthen our child with love and prevent him/her from sufferingbullying by a visual rehabilitation therapy.
As difficult as the path may seem, follow the guidance of your ophthalmopediatrician. We remember that the window of best therapeutic response 'closes', in general, at 7 years of age.
Follow the link of illustrative material for awareness of parents and children.
Soon, we will publish it in a Portuguese version.
